English 19th Century Walnut Hall Bench with Turned Legs, Four Feet Long

About the Item

English 19th century walnut hall bench. This four foot long bench has nicely turned and tapered legs, single board seat which has two turned rolls, one at each end. These rolls not only gave a simple form more presence but also would hold a cushion in place if one were desired. Generally, with timber this good, a cushion was not added. This form was made for entrance halls, but today it can be used in any room where some portable seating or a narrow coffee table is desired. They often find themselves at the end of a bed or in front of a fireplace, circa 1880.
