Fine Late 17th/ Early 18th C. Carved Walnut Bench W/ Christie's Provenance

About the Item

An extraordinary early Antique Bench with exquisite form and deft carving. Ex Christies, London, 1998, with label. From an estate in Buckinghamshire, England. A finely carved walnut small bench with tall scrolled cabriole legs carved with acanthus leaves set at angles to the seat. With undulating carved cross stretchers, the scrolled center with urn form finial. Ending in block feet. The seat in later fine gros point needlework with a figure of a Turk, a bird, and a griffin in a stylized floral landscape. W. 25 1/2", Depth 19", H. 22" Condition: Please see detail photos. Note: The crack in the stretcher has been professionally repaired and is shown for accuracy. There are various signs of age including expected stable antique cracks and gouges here and there for the age and use, small tear in upper left upholstered corner, overall nice antique patina and presenting very well.
