Monumental Antique Imperial Meiji Japanese Ebonized High Relief Carved Dragon

About the Item

Impressive Imperial Japanese Meiji period Elm Dragon storage bench. Features high relief carved accents and under seat storage. From top to bottom this piece is adorned with three toed dragons. The crown is pierced with a serpentine dragon sprawling through a field of clouds. The seat backing features inset panels showing two phoenix birds. Backing is flanked by figural arms carved in the manner of gnarling dragon with thick scales and a ball in mouth over an exquisite reticulated floral fretwork design. The rectangular form trunk base shows winged dragons along the corners, offset by an inset floral pattern. An exquisite design that will make a statement in any setting.
