About the Item
Alessandro Becchi “Toscanolla” dining chairs for Giovannetti, ashwood and straw, Italy, 1970, set of ten.
This rare “Toscanolla” dining chair was designed by Becchi for Giovannetti in 1970. Often misspelled as “Toscanella”, the “Toscanolla” chairs are characterized by cone-shaped legs that create a bulky, solid wooden structure, but still sophisticated thanks to the curved straw backrest. A unique and refined design that recalls iconic comfortable Italian country chairs, such as the Vico Magistretti “Carimate”. The light tone of solid ash wood enhances the Toscanolla’s sculptural geometry with its delicate hue and natural grain. Each chair is marked with the designer and manufacturer logo.
This set comes from Giovannetti’s original 1970s stock.

Mario Marenco Sapporo chairs for Mobil Girgi Italy 1970
By Mario Marenco, Mobil Girgi
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Wonderful set of Sapporo dining chairs designed by Mario Marenco for Mobil Girgi in Italy in 1970. These chairs are made from Italian walnut with a stunning grain pattern. The seats are original and have aged beautiful, showing a charming, worn-in leather look. What makes these chairs special is their unique design.
They have a hammer-shaped backrest that looks nice and provides good support. The seats are wide and comfortable for long meals. One cool thing about these chairs is how they're put together. Two slim slats go from the top of the backrest all the way down to the bottom, where they connect with a horizontal slat. This design makes the chairs look simple and modern.
Kindly note that the chairs are priced and sold in a set of 6 but we have 12 of these chairs available as shown on the pictures.
Mario Marenco was born in 1933. He studied architecture in Naples and won research grants for Stockholm and Chicago. In 1960 he opened in Rome his own atelier of architecture and...
