Couple of Finnish chairs by Ilmari Domus beige leather Birch wood
About the Item
Beautiful Pair of DOMUS model chairs, designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara, with birch structure, seat and back in beige leather. It was created in 1946 as part of the furniture for the Domus Academica student housing complex in Helsinki, soon becoming a great international success, becoming known as The Finnish Chair. The singularity of its short arms means that this chair can be brought closer to a table and saves space. Elegant and timeless, the three-dimensionally curved seat of the Domus chair is ergonomic and highly comfortable. This model also has the back and seat upholstered in beige leather, which makes them even more comfortable and allows sitting for a long period of time, since they were precisely designed for students who had to spend long hours studying.
About the designer, Ilmari Tapiovaara
Yrjö Ilmari Tapiovaara was a Finnish designer. He graduated from the Department of Furniture Design at the Central School of Applied Arts in Helsinki in 1937. After completing his studies, he worked as an assistant in Le Corbusier's Paris office before becoming Asko's artistic director and designer. He also designed furniture for Laukaan Puu and Lukkiseppo. He worked with his wife Annikki Tapiovaara as decorators on the Domus Academica project from 1946 to 1947. Years later they formed an interior design studio together. Ilmari came to work alongside Mies van der Rohe and counted Alvar Aalto among his greatest design influences.

- Art Deco Italian black and white couple of Cabinets -Secretaries Paolo BuffaBy Paolo BuffaLocated in Valladolid, ESOne of a kind pair of cabinet-secretaire in black lacquer wood and parchement attibuted to Paolo Buffa (Milan, Italy, 1903-1970). The furniture designed by the Milanese architect and designer Paolo Buffa is often unique, based on the needs of his clients and, for this reason, always different. What unites his pieces, in addition to the perfection in their execution, is the neoclassical style that Buffa absorbed during his training in Gio Ponti's studio in the 1920s: the solid and elegant lines that Buffa applies to his furniture maintain a kind of continuity between the 19th century and the 20th century and characterize all of his production. The use of precious woods, often decorated with fine grooves on the surfaces and brass ornaments, is another characteristic of his pieces. His most frequent collaboration was with the historic Milanese furniture factory Quarti, with which he designed several public and private projects for prestigious clients, such as the decoration of King Farouk of Egypt...Category
