“Fauteuils de Paquebot” Chair, France, 1950s

$4,900

About

This “boat or cruise chair” (fauteuils de paquebot in French) are not only visually arresting, but also interesting thanks to their historical use. The chair is made of exotic wood and were used as deck chairs on boats around the mid-century. As most deck chairs on cruisers, these are also folding, a feature of practicality and functionality. The Stand-out feature are the curved armrests that form a line with the back and front legs, creating a beautiful, flowing line. The square backrests, seats and legs balance out the armrests. This unusual Silhouette is complemented by the cane work of the manufacturer that forms the folding seats and backrests. The combination of the exotic wood and cane create an understated, luxurious look. Thanks to the short legs and the foldability, this chair is perfect to lounge in the sun, not only on a boat, but in any setting. The wood has a beautiful patina and the chairs emanate history to such a degree that the user can almost feel it. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The wood has some scratches, marks and discoloration. Overall the chair has a wonderfull patina and vintage appearance. Dimensions: 24.72 in W x 33.70 in D x 32.51 in H, seat height 12 in 62.8 cm W x 85.6 cm D x 82.6 cm H, seat height 30.5 Shipping: This chair will be packed and shipped with the greatest care to make sure you will receive the item in gallery condition.
