About the Item
A French Louis XVI style square-back armchair from the mid 20th century. This vintage chair from France has a square-shaped back, with upholstered center set within a molded wood frame of linear lines and flat top rail. The carved wood arms have padded manchette arm rests and terminate into volute-carved knuckles. The seat rail is carved in the same straight line molding as the chair back, with rosettes carved atop each of the corners/knees. The chair is raised upon cylindrical fluted legs which taper gently towards their feet. The back, seat, and arm pads have been newly upholstered in a neutral Belgian linen. This French armchair will make a perfect accent or office chair, while adding a bit of Louis XVI style, within a living room, study, or bedroom.

A French Louis XVI style carved-wood and upholstered marquise from the 19th century. This antique chair-and-a-half from France, often referred to as a marquise (a wide fauteuils chair), showcases all the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary with tightly carved scrolled knuckles, beautiful accent trims, and acanthus leaf accents. Flower head medallions are carved at the knees, above the four round and fluted legs, each tapering gently towards their feet. The backrest, padded manchette armrests, and seat are all upholstered in a cream fabric (note that there is some small staining).
