Lot Of Sam Chairs - Danish Teak - Neils Koefoed - Period: 20th Century

About the Item

Magnificent set of five Danish teak dining chairs with ladder backs attributed to Niels Koefoed. The seats are upholstered in imitation leather. Period: 20th Century Circa : 1965 - 1970 Dimensions : Total height : 100cm x width : 47cm x depth : 45cm                       Seat height : 45cm Danish furniture designer and factory owner Niels Koefoed has created a wide range of dining room furniture in the typical Danish mid-century modern style. The Koefoeds Hornslet furniture factory was founded in the 1920s by Koefoed's father, Einar Koefoed. Its name is a combination of the family name Koefoed and the name of the town where the factory was located: Hornslet.  At the end of the 20th century, there were three furniture manufacturers in the town, each specialising in different areas of the design industry: fine furniture, upholstered furniture and cabinet making.  Koefoeds Hornslet focused on the production of quality furniture, although Niels' most popular designs were dining chairs. In 1964, Koefoed designed the modernist Eva Chair, which featured three vertical slats on the back, and was produced by Koefoeds in a choice of teak or rosewood. The latter was phased out, replaced by cherry.  The Eva Chair was part of a series of three dining chairs, the other two being the very organically shaped 'Ingrid Chair' (1960s) and the 'Lis Chair' (1961), all of which would have been named after important women in Koefoed's life, Ingrid for example being Koefoed's daughter.  The 'Peter Chair' (1957) is said to have been named in honour of his son. In 2004, Koefoed Hornslet transferred its production to Thailand, where it continues to this day.
