About the Item

This elegant Mid-Century Modern stool was realized by the esteemed designer duo Adrian Audoux and Frida Minet in France circa 1960. It features a single sinuously curved body created from a single plank of walnut that arches to create one of the three supports at the base. The other two legs- also realized in solid walnut- cantilever from the seat at a biased angle where they meet the floor. These rectilinear supports offer a dynamic formal counterpoint to the volumetric circular seat and back rest realized in leather- exhibiting a wonderfully patinated surface that testifies beautifully to its storied history. The seat and backs are circumscribed around their border with nailhead detailing in bronze. With their clean modernist lines and elegant construction, this chair is sure to delight discerning collectors of first rate Mid Century design as well as those with a penchant for rare and exquisite objects. Very good vintage condition, wear commensurate with age and use. Adrian Audoux and Frida Minet were a French Modernist designer-duo who were quite prolific during the 1940s & 50s. Their design ethic was based upon new, accessible materials and technologies, representing the realities of modern life. They were members of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM), established in 1929 by a group of Modernist designers including, among others, Charlotte Perriand, Francis Jourdain, and Pierre Chareau. Audoux Minet's sophisticated and innovative use of materials such as rope and tubular metal added a fresh and exciting perspective to design of this period, influencing designers for generations to come.
