Contemporary Walnut and Aluminium Dining Chair
About the Item
This made to order light weight modern dining chair with its hand sculptured seat, back slats and top rail combined with the powder coated and polished CNC cut industrial feel aluminium legs provides a light hearted, uplifting and stylish solution to any dining room or contemporary kitchen. The tactile hand finished timber with the simplicity and elegance of its design allows this extremely ergonomic chair to sit proudly in any interior, classic, modern and/or even organic.
Each Mantíde has a hand sculpted seat, back slats and top rail made from carefully selected solid European Walnut. All the timber is hand finished with 5 coats of natural oil. The Aluminium legs are attached to the woodwork using A2 stainless steel counter sunk socket head bolts. The legs attaching to the sculpted seat use a specially designed bracket, under the seat, that allows for expansion and shrinkage.
This dining chair was inspired by the insect, the praying mantis. Designed by Sebastian Blakeley the chairs are tailor made to order at the Sebastian Blakeley Design workshops in Devon England in collaboration with the CNC master craftsmen.
The ‘Mantíde’ is a very popular chair has has been sold worldwide.
This chair is part of a customised limited edition of 1000. Each ‘Mantíde’ dining chair comes with its own certificate of provenance and is a signed and numbered piece.

I have been designing and making furniture for over 40 years. Through my experiences I have accumulated a comprehensive knowledge of the whole designing and making and process. From sourcing and selecting top quality timbers, to a broad understanding of traditional techniques and skills, through to a wide range of European contacts in complimentary skills and professions. This knowledge and experience allows me the possibility to create unique, statement furniture that delivers beyond clients expectations.
Customers can choose from; American cherry, Dark Walnut, European Walnut or Oak.
The aluminium legs can be either polished, powder coated or half polished and half powder coated.
