Pair Antique 17th Century William & Mary Oak Joined Back Stools Side Chairs 1690

About the Item

A true pair of late 17th century William & Mary period oak joined back stools/side chairs, circa 1690. A rare pair of original late 1600's chairs from the joint reign of King William III (House of Tudor) & Queen Mary II (House of Stuart). The chairs having arched tops and ribbed back splats with turned side rails mounted with turned finials. The chairs with solid seats & turned & block supports and side stretchers, the legs raised on compressed bun feet. The chairs are of joined & pegged construction, condition is very good, the chairs are stable & robust and ready to grace your home, both were just waxed polished in Bloomsbury's workshops. The chairs are guaranteed to be original late 1600's and not Victorian copies. Provenance; from a 17th century country house in Ripon, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

    A beautifully shaped William and Mary oak armchair with well carved horse-bone legs and arm supports, scrolled feet and handsomely carved front stretcher with S scrolls and geometric motif. The tall upholstered back over spiral turned legs and original spiral and bulb turned stretchers. In very good condition for age with some small old dings, some old woodworm, long long dead and a couple of small very old repairs - not affecting structure. The chair is extremely comfortable and solid with a good width between the arms, deep well padded seat and gentle rake to the padded back.
