About the Item

A pair 19th century Danish Klismos chairs. Collected in Copenhagen elegant pair of late 19th century Danish Klismos Chairs. Ebonized hardwood with colorful upholstery in very good condition. The Klismos Chair, a light, elegant chair developed by the ancient Greeks. Perfected by the 5th century bc and popular throughout the 4th century bc, the klismos has four curving, splayed legs and curved back rails with a narrow concave backrest between them. This 19th Century Danish interpretation is perfection on perfection. The splayed legs are well balanced to the frame and seat size not protruding out from under the seat. Seat frame sides are turned down eased with rounded ends adding detail that flows directly into the arched back supports following the lines of the entire chair frame to the back rest. Fantastic pair of Klismos chairs with exceptional individual design. Comfortable bringing an elegant timeless drama to any setting.
