About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely pair of rare Anglo-Indian circa 1860 hand-carved occasional chairs with Elephant legs, floral and bird carvings These chairs score a perfect 10/10 for intricate hand carving, they are the most elaborate ornate detailed pieces I have ever seen, really truly stunning from every angle, I struggle not to look at them whenever I see them, the pictures really don’t do them justice As you can see the front legs are carved with beautiful elephants heads with the trunks winding itself around the legs, the entire side panels from top to bottom are carved in a floral leaf formation, the backs have been carved all the way through and have birds both front and back, the seat base’s are sculpted from generations of people sliding on and off In terms of condition there might be some minor losses to the carving here or there, we have cleaned waxed and polished them, both frames had allot of play so they have been dowelled, they are about as good as they can be now which is to say safe to use and solid Dimensions: Height:- 105.5cm Width:- 47.5cm Depth:- 53cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
