Set of 6 Vintage Clear Lucite and Chrome Plia Chairs by Castelli

About the Item

When this chair debuted in 1967 it was an immediate international sensation. Designed by Giancarlo Piretti for Castelli, the use of materials and the ground-breaking 3 disk pivot mechanism was considered genius at the time. Over the decades since this chair has become a cult favorite. This lovely lucite folding chair is lightweight, beautiful and surprisingly comfortable. This set of 6 chairs came out of a Chicago estate. They were careful wrapped in plastic after each use (to limit scratching). The lucite is clear and bright. A few of the chairs have scratches (see close up images) but overall the set is in very good condition. Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. After studying fine arts at the Academy in Bologna, he started working as interior designer for Anonima Castelli, designing products both for home and office. In 1969 he conceived the Plia chair, one of the company's all-time landmarks, an iconic example of “Made in Italy” design.
