Custom Chaise Lounge Mohair Dark Chocolate Electric Motor Extra Wide 1960s

About the Item

Form, function, and luxury meet here with the beauty of mohair in chocolate velvet pile that covers a super-sized super-elegant, mid century chaise lounge. Finer than cashmere, more durable than wool, this fabric choice approaches the top without going over and adds to the history of this vintage chaise lounge. Sink into this irresistible piece in ultimate comfort, snuggle, and wait for it--add the hum of the motor and be lulled into even more comfort by the electric motor, which is part of the chair. A rare treat. Two people can recline comfortably in this extra wide re-upholstered chaise lounge with leather bunting and birch legs. Decades ago, clients in a hair salon gossiped while the gentle vibration of the motor lulled them into a deep state of relaxation. By the 1990s, this chaise sat idle in its original orange naugahyde glory. It started life out in the 1960s in a beauty salon until it was offered up by Jeff at Futurama, one of the original vintage stores in Los Angeles. Everything about this vintage piece is original, except that the orange naugahyde is long gone, and the original plastic knob for adjusting the speed of the motor has been replaced with a sleek and functional steel knob. The legs are made of a light wood that resembles birch. They are original and have developed an attractive patina. There are four large self covered buttons--also original to the piece. The chair motor is strong and the operating knob moves easily from low to higher massage action. The plug has been updated and replaced. This is a wonderful mid century example that is difficult to find today. It is a solid piece of '60s nostalgia and offers extra comfort and elegance to boot. The Frances Hunt News Blog says chaise Lounges date back to Ancient Greece and Egypt. This piece makes it easy to understand why they have endured. And you have choices---sit back and sink into the comfy mohair cushion in silence, or turn the knob, adjust your speed and be lulled into luxury and relaxation. The chaise measures 5 feet long from back to foot, and 4 feet wide from armrest to armrest. The height is 15 inches from the seat to the floor near the end where one's feet rest. Truly a collectible treasure.
