This rare collectors example of the FK-87 Grasshopper chaise lounge by Preben Fabricius & Jorgen Kastholm for Alfred Kill international is from the original production years (1960s) and not the recent reproductions by Lange making this a highly-sought-after collectors piece. Don't let the age and wear fool you - this is precisely what you want in an FK-87 Grasshopper chaise. With Lange having reproduced this design, albeit a much cheaper and inferior version of the original design from Alfred Kill International, it has forced collectors to seek original examples of this design with greater age and patina (just like this one). That age and patina provides additional assurance of when the example was made and gives greater contrast to the unfortunate creations that Lange produced. While it is easy to get a Lange production Grasshopper - just a simple search in 1stDibs and you will see the many available - it's the original Alfred Kill examples that hold actual collectors and art / design investors value. The iconic FK87 Grasshopper silhouette of the bent steel frame along with extremely comfortable channel tufted cushions and head bolster pillow with leather straps, and signature canvas sling makes a recipe that is finely finished by its exquisite leather wrapped arms - which possesses gorgeous patina showing its refined age. This FK-87 Grasshopper chaise lounge by Preben Fabricius & Jorgen Kastholm for Alfred Kill international is ideal for collectors, designers, architects - or anyone who has refined taste - this is the connoisseurs chair, this is the classy choice for a sophisticated client. If I could only take 10 items to a deserted island - this would absolutely be one of my choices. And these are extremely hard to find, so when you find one it is hard to let go. Luckily I have another one I've owned for many loving years so I decided to make this one available for another connoisseur with fine vintage taste to acquire. MEASUREMENTS: H 32.25" x W 28.5" x D 58" Seat Height: 8" to 15.5" Seat Depth: 38.5" Arm Height: 17" CONDITION: Aged example with moderate patina to the steel frame and leather arms and straps. The canvas has moderate wear and aging. The fabric cushions and head bolster pillow have heavy aging, fading and discoloration. The patina on the steel frame can be cleaned off if desired however we decided to keep it to show its age and allow the buyer to decide if they wish to keep the patina or remove it. The leather arms are very nice with some light scratches which can be touched up upon request. Our suggestion for this rare collectors piece is to create new leather cushions and bolster pillow and keep the original ones stored away. This way you get the best of both worlds. The age and patina to the frame, canvas and leather is quite beautiful for those who love patina, like we do. This is a functional art and collectors piece that is better with age and patina - collectors wish to see this to differentiate from the new and inferior Lange reproductions. If you want something that looks brand new - buy a cheap Lange repro - if you are a connoisseur of original things - then buy this hard-to-find original while it is still available.
