"Ruffian" Chaise Longue by Niall O'Flynn for 't Spectrum, Netherlands, 1997

About the Item

Eye-catching chaise longue, model "Ruffian", designed by Niall O'Flynn for 't Spectrum in the Netherlands in 1997. Only a few of these beautiful chaise longues have been produced, as an "experimental production", making them a rare find and a unique piece of Dutch design. They have a tubular metal frame, nicely crafted from one piece, and a woven metal seating, making the seating experience nice and comfortable. A great piece that would make a great addition to any interior! In good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Niall O'Flynn (Ireland 1959) is a multi-disciplinary designer and business-man, dividing his time between industrial design and exhibition and interior design. Trained as an architect and cabinet-maker, materiality and material transformation has been a constant reference in his designs. Having run his company with considerable success for several years in London, since 1990 Niall has located his studio and workshops in Barcelona, working with institutional and corporate clients. Between 1997 and 2001, Niall ran a furniture production ciompany with sales in the US, Europe and Japan. Niall has exhibited his designs internationally and has received a number of prestigious international design awards. In hisa international trajectory, Niall has represented Ireland, Catalunya and Spain. Presently, Niall is a university lecturer in the area of design at both graduate and post-graduate level ( Elisava UPF, Istituto Europeo di Design / UB IL3). In recent years, Niall has been Board Secretary of the FAD ( Foment de les Arts y Disseny). Literature: Concepta Barcelona

MELT CHAISE LONGUE by Nendo for Wonderglass
By Nendo, WonderGlass
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Melt is a collaboration with Japanese design studio, nendo, inspired by the flexibility of molten glass and the force of gravity. The creation of Melt was a unique and complex production. After watching the craftsmen working in WonderGlass’s workshops, Oki Sato from nendo intended to let the material guide the design process. As a result, a method of laying hot glass sheets over steel shapes and suspending them between steel bars was developed, allowing the material’s natural drape to reveal its form. Melt Edition includes Melt Armchair, Melt Bench, Melt Stool, Melt Chair...
