Antique French Louis XV Day Bed ~ Sofa
About the Item
Antique French Louis XV Day Bed ~ Sofa is a truly unusual find! Designed on a larger scale than is typical, it will make the perfect addition to any room, and is ready to customize to your particular tastes! Sculpted from solid old-growth oak which has been given a luxurious walnut stain, it features the sensuous, naturalistic lines that are the hallmark of the style. Each of the four cornerposts are gracefully scrolled, lavishly carved with acanthus leaf, foliates and oak leaves, and designed with a "rolled" top that traverses the span between the posts with curved edges that have no sharp corners. The traverse is richly carved with scrollwork and foliate sprays to complement the rest of the embellishment. The undulating form of the apron that connects the two sides is also lavishly carved on three sides with a display of stylized shell and foliate sprays, with the aforementioned oak leaves emanating out from the corners to tie in the design. No less than eight boldly scrolled, substantially formed legs provide support, with carved embellishment on the six that show towards the room, and all adorned with escargot feet. Luxurious mohair upholstery was applied with expensive gimp to create a backdrop for your own stylistic addition!
