About the Item

A beautiful Antique set of ten Chippendale Revival Ladderback dining chairs, comprising eight sidechairs and two armchairs, dating from Circa 1880. They have been crafted from hand carved solid flame mahogany with drop in seats upholstered in navy blue leather and beautifully shaped and carved backrests with an attractive ladderback design. The carvers have curved open arms and they all have splay legs to the back with elegant square front legs with H stretchers for extra strength. The chairs are a rich mahogany colour with a striking grain and good patina. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THESE ITEMS ARE MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Condition: In really excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Our reference: A3570a
