Brazilian Modern Chairs in Metal & Suede, Carlo Hauner, 1950s, Brazil

About the Item

Available today, these Mid-Century Modern chairs in Fabric and Metal designed by Carlo Hauner in the fifties are beautiful!! The one of a kind set of six dining chairs was designed by Carlo Hauner for Moveis Artesanais, the designer’s first company (that he shared with Martin Eisler) and predecessor of the better known Forma. They have been reupholstered in light blue ultrasuede, in the same as it was originally done in the fifties. The sleek and delicate metal legs give the illusion that the chairs are floating. This design was a popular design back in the fifties. Attached vintage publications featuring the piece. This set would look incredible in any modern, Mid-Century Modern, or contemporary environment. Carlo Hauner (1927-1997) and Martin Eisler (1913-1977) were the primary designers for the iconic Brazilian furniture company Forma. They are most known for well-shaped armchairs made in iron, but the production is far more complex, handcrafted, and extensive. The wood pieces produced by Forma Móveis e Objetos de Arte during 1950 & 1960s in Brazil are highly designed and well-executed. Their narrative spans four countries (Italy, Austria, Brazil, and Argentina) and several decades and their exceptional works are already highly sought-after examples of the vibrant modern design movement in Latin America.

Brazilian Modern Armchairs in Fabric, Hardwood & Metal, Carlo Hauner, 1950s
By Carlo Hauner

Available now, this Mid-Century Modern armchair set in velvet, Hardwood & Steel designed by Carlo Hauner in the fifties is perfect! This gorgeous set features a steel structure painted in black and a seat & body backrest in new gray velvet upholstery with three buttons and delicate Brazilian Rosewood (known as Jacaranda) arms. The restoration of the set took a few months because when I bought it the armchairs didn't have the Jacaranda arms, and every collector knows that the value of a piece is on the integrity of the piece, meaning original pieces and method. Finding Hauner’s wood arms took me to many antique markets until two months after I found the wood arms in a shop specialized in vintage furniture in Rio de Janeiro’s city center. Now the piece is complete! These armchairs are so awesome that we’ve paired them in the gallery with other pieces and are always spectacular. The first furniture set showcases the armchairs with Scapinelli’s famous Acqua coffee table and Jorge Zalszupin Pullman sofa. The second image has the set next to Celina Decoracoes four seat sofa and a delicate Scapinelli coffee table. The third image has one armchair next to Sergio Rodrigues’s Sabara Rosewood trunk...
