About the Item

This set of six Lancashire Spindle Back Farmhouse Chairs were made between 1870-1880. Lancashire, a county in North West England, is known for witches, cheese, and chairs like these. The chairs measure 38" tall, 15 ½" wide, 16 ¼" deep, and with a seat height of 16 ½". Elm and Beech were popular wood choices for this style of farmhouse chair. The rush seats are in pretty good condition, with some losses here and there. Old varnish covers a few of the seats. But all the chairs are sturdy and useable. There is evidence of antique repairs on on one or more of the chairs, and two smears of something green on the back of one of the chairs. It's difficult to see but it's there just the same. I didn't try to remove it but I'm sure it could be. The rush work is original and at some point in the future, the new caretaker of these magnificent artifacts may want to have the seats rewoven. These chairs are not easy to come by, especially in such good condition and in a set of six very well matched chairs. The wood's patina is silky-smooth, and these sturdy chairs are a genuine treasure Gorgeous in an antique, eclectic, or even modern environment.
