About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning set of eight early Victorian hand-carved oak dining chairs made in the Jacobean manor A set of eight early Victorian dark oak high back dining chairs of Carolean design, including two armchairs, the shaped crest rails carved with oval cartouche flanked by lions, on fluted uprights, the splats fretted and carved with fruiting vines, arm terminals carved with lions heads, seats upholstered in floral tapestry, on turned and fluted legs and H-pattern stretchers As mentioned these are based on some earlier Jacobean designs, the chairs are hand-carved from solid English oak. The arms of the chairs depict hound dogs, the backs are in the form of armorial crests, these chairs are grand signature statement pieces Each chair has had the frame checked glued and clamped if loose, the frames are all nice and solid, the timber has been hand waxed and polished from top to bottom, there doesn’t seem to be any losses, some join line timber splits from normal age but that’s it Six standard chair dimensions Height 112.5cm Width 44.5cm Depth 47cm Two large carver dimensions Height 134.5cm Width 66cm Depth 67cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
