About the Item

A good set of 10 vintage Anglo-Indian rosewood chairs in the Regency style made circa 1960. The set consists of 8 arms and two sides. Carved from solid indigenous rosewood the chairs are heavy and well made using the time-honored methods of pegged joinery. Made in the Regency taste consisting of carved and turned elements the chairs have a nice old surface and a rich color. The backrest is deeply carved and the back splat is centered on a carved medallion flanked by splayed trefoil emblems. All the caning has nice color and is in good condition. The chairs come from the Michael and Eleanora Kennedy home, Kilkare in Wainscott NY.

This finely carved chair made from costly imported mahogany exhibits many special details including a molded arch back with a pierced baluster shaped splat, shaped arms and graceful cabriole legs headed by atheneum and leaf-shaped carving. All the carving is very fine and the color is its original faded color which is so lovely and special. The chairs generous proportions make it comfortable and easy to use.
