About the Item

DS-490 sofa by De Sede Design: Thomas Althaus Dimensions: D 72 x W 240 x H 104 cm Materials: metal, birch plywood, leather Prices may change according to the chosen materials and size. A straight backrest becomes a curved silhouette With two flicks of the wrist, DS-490 can be converted into a double recliner. The seat units with elaborately stitched upholstery offer supple comfort and create a contrast to the precisely contoured seat shape and the mechanism hidden underneath. The two seating elements lie on thin platforms that can be rotated independently of each other by 90°; the sofa with modern seat depth thus becomes a recliner for relaxing. Independently of the seating elements, the two backrests are also individually adjustable. This makes the seat depth and the back height easy to individualize. De Sede has its origins in a small but skilled saddler's workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland. The craftsmen there committed themselves to transforming the best possible leather into seating furniture. Their years of experience and diligence enabled them to create handcrafted leather furniture of singular quality. In 1965, the family-run business became a joint-stock company called De Sede AG, but remained faithful to their original guiding principles. The company developed rapidly from this moment onwards: top designers of international caliber were brought on board to create seating furniture, additional manufacturing facilities were opened, and an international distribution network was established. Sophisticated designs that skillfully integrate traditional and precise Swiss workmanship swiftly gained the brand an international reputation. Today, De Sede AG presents itself as a leading manufacturer of exclusive leather furniture. Out of the original small workshop, a company has emerged that employs over 110 people and distributes furniture in more than 69 countries, including the United States and Russia, the GCC countries, and even emerging markets such as China and Brazil.

De Sede DS 80 Three-Seat Sofa in Nougat Upholstery by De Sede Design Team
By De Sede
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Feet up and just unwind – our DS-80 relocates sleep to the daytime hours, the time when we are supposed to be active and getting things done. Its subtle appearance reminds us to take a relaxing break from our hectic everyday lives once in a while – and that’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of. The modest dimensions of the daybed are a benefit here, as they gently force you to spend some time on your own. Part of the basic furnishings of any upscale interior in the 1920s, the flat daybed has been enjoying a Renaissance for several years now. Our daybed caused a stir more than 30 years ago, with its elaborate patchwork processing and freely placeable back cushions. This timeless Classic has now been gently updated. It is available both as a daybed and as a small lounge sofa, too. The daybed doubles as a lounge sofa The daybed DS-80 has established itself as a timeless Classic by De Sede ever since it was launched in 1969: to this day, the model is a paradigm of highclass leather manufacture and popular all-over the world. To be honest, we’re not quite sure which we like better: the newly produced models or the 50-year-old sculptures...

De Sede DS-810 Onda Sofa by Atelier Oï
By De Sede, Atelier Oï 1
Located in Brooklyn, NY
The works, installations and room concepts created by atelier oï never cease to amaze. The unusual designs provide a sense of the key areas that the design col- lective has worked on over several decades: materials, form and light. The collective’s way of working resembles that of a top- class chef, who uses experimental methods with exactly the right touch. The designers succeeded in developing their very own de- sign language, which is nourished by a love of authentic materials and artisan skills. When it came to developing the DS-808 for de Sede, this sensitive approach – with its focus on fully understanding the material – proved to be extremely valuable. While working with leather in a practical way, the designers found a way to push the boundaries of the material in a playful manner – and to clearly place the unmis- takable hallmarks of classic leather design in the here and now. The leather is laid over the structure like a throw. The end of each square pouffe forms a dynamic wave, which makes the heavy material appear fluid and light. The convex and concave lines allow in- finite, sinuous seating arrangements to be created in a modular way – side tables, too, are at home within the softly undulating structure. With or without backrests, in a group or as a solo performer, the DS-808 and...
