About

Very rare 'Body Chair' by famous British artist, decorator and antique dealer to high society, Anthony Redmile

This chair was produced circa 1975, a feature article published in the November 1975 issue of the prestigious design periodical 'CASA VOGUE' featuring stunning photography of the interior of Anthony Redmile's home in London illustrates a very similar surrealistic form 'body' chair.

The full CASA VOGUE article will be available on PDF on request

.Provenance:

The chair was purchased in the mid-1970s by Berry Visser who was the organizer of the Holland Pop Festival in 1970 (featuring Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Santana) .This first Dutch "Woodstock" was the start of his concert booking agency MoJo Concerts which is still running today.

During his many travels to London during the 1970s Visser instantly fell in love with this chair at the Anthony Redmile antiques gallery and purchased it

It has always been in his interior and many famous music artists have probably sat on this bespoke piece of furniture

After asking Berry who he could remembe sitting in this chair he came up with one name othat he could definitely recall well , He told me that Ian Dury sat in the chair stroking the legs with the bracelets and wondered if the jewels were real and precious

After a rockstar's life the chair was in fairly rough condition when it arrived at the Artbrokerdesign restoration workshop last year (see photo 10)

The Artbrokerdesign team was dedicated to bring back its original glory days and re-upholstered the chair with new white leather upholstery
A company (VKD) specialised in fibreglass and plastics restored the body to its original condition with complete restoration of the weak and damaged parts and a gelcoat finish (photo 9)

After this full restoration the body chair was exhibited in a Dutch Museum (Gorichem) for 6 months in the exhibition 'Seventies - Music, Fashion, Design'

We have also contacted the Anthony Redmile gallery in London but unfortunately they did not keep any official archive documentation from this period

A PDF file documenting the restoration process is available.
