Lounge Chair 118 in Teak & Bouclé by Grete Jalk for France & Son, Denmark

About the Item

Grete Jalk Lounge chair model 118 in Teak. Manufactured by France & Son in Denmark, probably in the 1950s. The chair is in a very nice restored state. Th structure in solid teak wood has been refinished, the cushions have been replaced (new foam and bouclé fabric by Metamorphosis). The bouclé fabric gives a contemporary touch to the Classic design of this Scandinavian easy chair. Early production given the old version of the France & Son logo. Grete Jalk is one of the most important Danish designers, born in Copenhagen in 1920. She trained as a cabinetmaker at the Copenhagen Women's Design School between 1940 and 1942 ; then at the Royal Danish Academy under the authority of the very influential designer Kaare Klint. In 1946 she won first prise in the Cabinetmakers' Guild annual competition; five years later, in 1951, her designs were exhibited at the Milan Triennale where she received much acclaim.

    Repaired: The frame has a repaired crack at the back and a small area at one armrest has been repaired. Both without any structural issue. Reupholstered. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages.

    Pair of very elegant vintage Lounge Chairs in the style of Carlo de Carli model ‘802’ chairs. These are very similar to the 802 chair, you have to look very closely to find the differences. The 802 chairs were produced by Cassina. They have been designed by Carlo de Carli in 1960 for the ‘Hotel Parco Dei Principi’ in Sorrento, Italy. Gio Ponti was the architect of the Hotel and a close friend of De Carli. Ponti furnished it with many of his furniture designs and with a few pieces by created by Carlo De Carli. The design is characterised by the dynamic line that runs from the backrest all the way down to the front legs and forms the armrests. The chairs are in restored state. The tappered legs in ebonized walnut wood have been refinished. The chairs have been newly upholstered in high quality velvet by Fendi Casa / Luxury Living Group.
