About the Item

With a nod to the immense popularity of Charles Eames's swivel lounge chair and ottoman, Wormley capitalized on the popularity of his own stationary, winged lounge chair and ottoman (model 5761) and adapted it as model 6142 retaining its iconic tilted look, shaped wings, 'T' cushion. The tufted back was changed to a thick two section seat back, the arms received thicker, over scaled padding and both chair and matching ottoman were set on swiveling pedestal bases of shaped walnut legs each unit tilted inversely to each other with distinctive, thick round brass discs as glides. Despite Dunbar press releases calling the duo "One of the most elegant pieces in the Dunbar line..." and "Quietly inviting-a mood of timeless comfort is designed into this chair." sales were not reflective of Wormley's enthusiasm for it, hindered perhaps by its rather lofty pricing at the time. The chair had extremely low production numbers and was only produced for two sales seasons, Fall 1961 to Fall 1963.

Mid Century Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Murphy Miller for Plycraft c 1950’s
By Plycraft, Murphy Miller Inc.
Located in New York, NY
Classic Mid Century lounge chair and ottoman designed by Murphy Miller for Plycraft, circa 1950’s. The swivel and tilt chair features bent plywood arms which are attached to the tufted vinyl upholstered seat and backrest. The not often seen ottoman features a fully tufted surface which is supported by the tapering tubular metal four leg base. This example is in good, original condition showing some signs of age and use, specifics to follow. The vinyl upholstery on the seat cushion of the chair has a small flaw, and the upholstery at the top of the side of the back shows minor scuffs. The chair is fully functional and usable as is, or you can have it reupholstered if you prefer a more polished look. In the style of the Mulhauser , and Eames plywood lounge chairs...
