About the Item

This magnificent pair of armchairs produced in the early twentieth century by the renowned Slovenian architect Josef Plecnik (Jože Plečnik), Master of modern architecture. His work is characterized by iconic, classical forms used in surprising and often unconventional ways. He originally designed the 'Elza' armchairs for his home in Ljubljana. Bear the name of his wife Elza, to whom they are dedicated. This set is a true show stopper and it's the only one of its kind available! Expertly crafted, beautiful Klismos form executed in black lacquer finish with light wood inserts. Having open arms with distinguished scrolled ends. Standing on sabre legs with brass sabots. Seats freshly upholstered in a yellow cotton velvet chosen to enhance the beauty of lacquered frames. The dramatic impact of these chairs is as potent today as when they were first created and will give a modern interior a unique presence. Literature: Dr. Damjan Prelovšek, one of the most important experts on the Plečnik work. His famous private Villa Prelovšek was reconstrusted & furnished in the 30's by Plecnik, showcasing the table & chairs designed by him. 2013 Exhibition organized by GVUO and the Cabinet of Architecture, chairs on display. 2017 Exhibition entitled “Plečnik over the City” at the Ljubljana Castle, chair on display. And many more.
