Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner, 'Reversible' lounge chairs, nubuck leather Long Beach - Grape Wine by Montebello, lacquered iron, brass, Brazil, 1955 The early edition Reversible lounge chairs, designed by Brazilian design masters Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner in 1955, represent a pinnacle of their creative legacy. Their organically shaped seats and backrests, characterized by rounded contours, are juxtaposed with the sleek, linear iron framework composed of interconnected black lacquered rods. As its name suggests, the "Reversible" chair provides two distinct seating options for dual comfort: upright for formal occasions or semi-reclined for relaxed lounging, thanks to its pronounced curvature. Recently reupholstered in luxurious grape wine purple colored nubuck leather, the chair exudes sophistication and comfort. Its sculptural essence and versatile comfort ensure it can serve as a striking focal point within one's interior. Along with many of the most important Brazilian designers, Martin Eisler (1913-1977) was educated in Europe. He studied architecture in Austria and moved to Buenos Aires in 1938. In the same year, he founded an architecture firm and organized an exhibition of his furniture. From 1952 onwards he came to Sao Paulo where he worked with Carlo Hauner and Ernesto Wolf to found Móveis Artesenal in 1995 which would later become Forma. Carlo Hauner (1927-1996), just as Eisler, studied in Europe at the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy. Once arrived in Brazil, after 1948, he dedicated himself to textile, ceramics, furniture and architecture. Eisler and Hauner met in 1953, a little while after Hauner founded Moveís Artesenal, a furniture production company. Together they started Galeria Artesenal, a store to accompany Moveís Artsenal and designed the furniture together. Carlo Hauner (1927-1996) studied in Europe at the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy. Once arrived in Brazil, after 1948, he dedicated himself to textile, ceramics, furniture and architecture. He paired up with his brother Ernesto Hauner, Carlo being the creative of the pair. In 1951, the Hauner brothers bought Lina Bo Bardi and Pietro Bardi's Pau-Brazil factory, which would be renamed after Móveis Artesenal. Later on, he would associate with new partners Martin Eisler and Ernesto Wolf, with whom he would later create the company Forma. Hauner himself left a small legacy of mainly upholstered furniture.
