Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler for Forma 'Conchinha' Lounge Chairs

About the Item

Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler for Forma, 'Conchinha' lounge chairs, iron, fabric, Brazil, 1950s Elegant and modern armchairs by Brazilian designer duo Hauner & Eisler. The thin, elegant frame is made in black painted iron. Due to the diagonal connection and lines of the frame, these lounge chairs get a delicate appearance. The armrest graduate smoothly into the seats. The seat itself reclines backwards giving these chairs a playful dynamic appearance. The white upholstery is a beautiful contrast to the moody and elegant black bases of these chairs. Along with many of the most important Brazilian designers, Martin Eisler (1913-1977) was educated in Europe. He studied architecture in Austria after which he moved to Buenos Aires in 1938. In the same year, he founded an architecture firm and organized an exhibition of his furniture. Carlo Hauner (1927-1996), just as Eisler, studied in Europe at the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy. Once arrived in Brazil, after 1948, he dedicated himself to textile, ceramics, furniture and architecture. Eisler and Hauner met in 1953, a little while after Hauner founded Moveís Artesenal, a production company. Together they started Galeria Artesenal, a store to accompany Moveís Artsenal. Hauner and Eisler’s designs are characterized by their use of native woods to Brazil such accompanied by thin tubular frames. By Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler, Martin Eisler, Carlo Hauner
    Located in New York, NY
Concha armchair is one of the most iconic pieces designed by Martin Eisler (1913-1977). The armchair was created in 1953 and produced by Móveis Artesanal and then Forma S.A. Móveis e Objetos de Arte. “Galeria Artesanal,” the first showroom that presented the furniture and objects created by Moveis Artesanal and HG Ceramica, used to sell the Concha Armchair and also show it in their advertisements in magazines. The armchair features a comfortable and extremely reclined shell-shaped upholstered seat that fits the body. Other pieces combined the same iron structure with different seat types in shell shape: upholstered, made of strings, or leather straps. The pieces are in original condition. Restoration services...
