About the Item

The Lamino chair by Yngve Ekström for Swedese is a classic piece of Scandinavian design that combines simplicity, comfort and elegance. The chair has a curved wooden frame that supports an original black leather seat and backrest. The Lamino chair was created in 1956 and has been in continuous production ever since and was voted the best Swedish furniture of the 20th century by a jury of specialized journalists. The chair is still handmade by skilled craftsmen in Sweden, using high quality materials and techniques. The condition of this original piece attests to the quality and endurance of the chair's craftmanship. Yngve Ekström (1913-1988) was a Swedish furniture designer, wood carver, sculptor and architect and an important figure in the evolution of the Scandinavian Modernism movement. He co-founded the furniture manufacturer ESE-möbler (later renamed Swedese) with his brother Jerker and business partner Sven Bertil Sjöqvist. He worked at Swedese for over 40 years until his death in 1988. He was also a prolific wood carver and sculptor, creating many works of art for public spaces. He was inspired by nature, organic forms and his childhood in Småland. He once said: "I designed Lamino with the human body as a starting point, making it as pleasant to look at as to sit in".
