Paco Muñoz Spain Design Icon Riaza Chico Chica Children Hunting Chairs for Darro

About the Item

Paco Muñoz (1925-2009) began quickly his career as furniture designer and decorator working for international chiefs of state and celebrities, including the Spanish royal family. In 1959, in an effort to make a much needed next step in traditional Spanish interior design and, breaking Spain's then long established cultural isolation, connect to European modernity - especially Scandinavian and Italian design - to enter the age of furniture industrialization, he founded the firm Darro. When he designed the iconic Riaza chair for the Golf Club de Campo de Villa in Madrid, Muñoz invented, from a Spanish perspective, a new way of sitting, not without paying a respectful hommage to the traditional Spanish friar's chair. The minimalistic design, apparent simplicity and startling gracefulness of the Riaza design are all present in this pair of children chairs. The admirable hand sewn leather craft is simply and discretely held on the walnut structure by elegant straps and belt hardware. The two chairs have each a different name, respectively Chico and Chica, and different measurement. Chico Depth : 45 cm (17 3/4 inches) Width : 44 cm (17 1/3 inches) Height : 64 cm (25 1/4 inches) Seat height : 37 cm (14 1/2 inches) Chica Depth : 41 cm (16 1/8 inches) Width : 44 cm (17 1/3 inches) Height : 59.5 cm (23 1/4 inches) Seat height : 34 cm (13 1/3 inches)

The Djinn lounge chairs, designed by Olivier Mourgue (born 1939) for Airborne in 1963, are one of those very few quintessential and emblematic early space age designs which - much like the character from the 2001 a Space Odissey movie where they were notoriously featured - evaded space and time to, at first glance, catch the eye and the heart of the beholder, no matter the context nor the timeframe. Rightfully considered as the climax of the 1960s french seat...
