About the Item

Pair of oak "La cachette » fireside chairs, 1960s/70s, attributed to Charlotte Perriand. These chairs come from the La Cachette residence, located in the Les Arcs 1600 ski resort in the French Alps. Charlotte Perriand, the famous French architect and designer, directed the creation of the Les Arcs ski resort from 1967 to 1989. She was responsible for the town planning and architecture of the buildings, as well as the interior fittings and furniture. At the time, a number of very large buildings were created, with a large number of flats, including a residence called La Cachette, which has now become a luxury hotel. These seats come from this building and were present in the flats. It may not be a design by Charlotte Perriand, hence the reference to "attributed to", but it is certainly a choice and selection by Charlotte Perriand, who oversaw the interior decoration of the flats and buildings, for which she created many pieces of furniture and lighting. As she said "When something exists, I don't see why I should do it. But if it doesn't exist, if I need it, I create it" from : Conversation between Charlotte Perriand and Marie Dedieu 1982 (in Charlotte Perriand, Une architecte en montagne, Jacques Barsac, Norma éditions)The oak frames have been carefully sanded to remove worn varnish and oiled, and the cushions have been completely refurbished, with foam and textile with 100% pure wool cloth. The backrests can be easily dismantled to save space during transport. These seats are extremely comfortable and look fantastic in any interior, as well as being a piece of French design history !
