About the Item

Paul McCobb for Directional Designs, lounge chair, model 1322, walnut, fabric, 1950s. A design Paul McCobb model 1322 dating back to the 1950s. The quintessential design features of McCobb's furniture is clearly visible in this armchair such as the exquisitely tapered legs and the back that embodies small pointy ends. The seat, back and armrests are upholstered in a turquoise, soft striped fabric that forms a striking match with the walnut frame. All lines of the walnut frame are refined and delicate and form a border for the thick blue upholstery. Great and comfortable chair that holds it original fabric. Paul McCobb (1917–1969), born in the United States, MA, was a furniture and Industrial designer. He went to the art academy in Boston yet did not finish his education. McCobb designed furniture, accessories, textiles and other household items such as televisions and radios. He also wrote his own design column in several national newspapers and taught design at Philadelphia Museum School of Art. Paul McCobb received the of MoMA's Good Design Award five times between 1950 and 1955. One of his most famous furniture lines is the Irwin Collection that was produced by Calvin Furniture and from 1955 by WK Möbler. Paul McCobb’s trademark is a simplistic aesthetic without unnecessary ornamentation. Delicate lines, refined finish. His source of inspiration is the Shakers design, Scandinavian craftsmanship and of course the International modernist style. His use of material is often durable and solid such as iron, stone and solid wood.   Please note that the fabric is in good, used condition with signs of age and use. The fabric bears a slight fading and the wood contains wear, including scratches. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
