Percival Lafer MP-75 Lounge Chairs w Rosewood Buckles, 1970 Brazil, Set of Four

About the Item

These very rare and documented set of Percival Lafer 'MP-75' lounge chairs, designed and produced in the 1970s. This rare set of four (4) lounge chairs which feature Brazilian Rosewood (Jacaranda) buckles were acquired by us in a home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Documented in the recent Lafer book (we included a photo of this page in the photos of this listing), these examples are earlier examples with interior wood frames instead of fiberglass which was used in the later 70s. Also built on a plinth base which makes the height slightly taller. Based on the age of materials and construction we attribute these to the early 1970s. Not many of these were made and are extremely rare - also very sought-after by die-hard Brazilian Modern And Lafer collectors. Our favorite part of this design are the Jacaranda buckles on each chair. Such unique details that really make this set special. The original leatherette is attractive and in good vintage condition, collectors will probably prefer to use the beautiful leatherette, but also consider reupholstering to bouclé or a new leather color of your choice. It's a tough choice - and if you can't decide, just buy and use the chairs in its existing upholstery and you can always reupholster it in the future at any time you wish =) These MP75 easy chairs by Percival Lafer would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as side chairs, bedside chairs, fireside chairs, dressing or changing room chairs, hallway chairs, entryway or mudroom chairs, nursing or reading chairs, conference room chairs, office or desk guest chairs, lobby lounge chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting. MEASUREMENTS: H 28.5" x W 24.5" x D 31" Seat Height: 16" Seat Depth: 17" CONDITION: Good vintage condition with age appropriate wear and patina. The leatherette is original and therefore we decided to keep it instead of reupholstering. From a collectors standpoint it is fantastic to keep the original upholstery. However for interior designers, this is also an excellent opportunity to reupholster to something new and trendy. If you are interested in having us reupholster these prior to shipping contact us for details and a quote.

  • Pair of Club Chairs by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
    By Sormani, Claudio Salocchi
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered pair of club chairs by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features graceful chrome frames with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching sofa available in another listing. The graceful frames share a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However these Sormani lounge chairs feature some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair of easy chairs are an amazing opportunity. These Cassina LC2 / LC3 style chairs...

  • Monumental Pair of Fiberglass 'Jennifer' Lounge Chairs by Michael Taylor, 1970s
    By Michael Taylor
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
So many incredible aspects to this pair of monumentally sized 'Jennifer' lounge chairs by Michael Taylor, circa 1970s, we will attempt to list them all in this description. First, and most noticeably, is the size. They are huge, humungous, monumental, enormous... I mean, they are incredibly large. You can easily fit two people and a dog in a single chair and have room to cuddle, snuggle, hang-out, watch a movie, have drinks in an intimate setting, or even fall asleep comfortably cradled. It's not just how wide they are but also the depth also provides a dramatic increase in overall 'lounging' footprint of the chairs. These chairs are so large, they shouldn't even be called chairs, they are somewhere between a loveseat and a daybed - perhaps they should be called lovebeds instead? The second thing that we absolutely love about these chairs is its design history. The Jennifer chair is one of Michael's earliest designs. Michael designed it for actress Jennifer Jones (Mrs. Norton Simon), she asked him for a chair that she could curl her legs in and relax and this monumental chair...
