About the Item

The Ribbon chair is a modernist furniture design by French designer Pierre Paulin, first presented in 1966. The chair is known for its flowing, organic form that resembles a ribbon or a shell, and its use of advanced materials for the time. The Ribbon chair was created during a period of innovation and experimentation in furniture design. Paulin was inspired by new materials and techniques, such as foam injection molding, which allowed him to create a unique shape that was not possible with traditional upholstery techniques. The chair was produced by the Dutch furniture manufacturer Artifort, with whom Paulin had a long-standing collaboration. The design of the Ribbon chair is characterized by its elegant, flowing curves, which create a sense of movement and dynamism. The chair is made from a single, continuous piece of molded foam, which is covered in in boucle easyclean Buvetex fabric. The base is grey lacquered. Reupholstered. Please have a close look at the fabric, boucle fabric is not as stretchy as other fabrics. Therefor it is more difficult to have a real fitted look. The back side shows this.
