Pierre Paulin "Ribbon" Lounge Chair in Boucle for Artifort, Netherland

About the Item

The Ribbon chair is a modernist furniture design by French designer Pierre Paulin, first presented in 1966. The chair is known for its flowing, organic form that resembles a ribbon or a shell, and its use of advanced materials for the time. The Ribbon chair was created during a period of innovation and experimentation in furniture design. Paulin was inspired by new materials and techniques, such as foam injection molding, which allowed him to create a unique shape that was not possible with traditional upholstery techniques. The chair was produced by the Dutch furniture manufacturer Artifort, with whom Paulin had a long-standing collaboration. The design of the Ribbon chair is characterized by its elegant, flowing curves, which create a sense of movement and dynamism. The chair is made from a single, continuous piece of molded foam, which is covered in in boucle easyclean Buvetex fabric. The base is grey lacquered. The Ribbon chair is not only a functional piece of furniture, but also a work of art. It has won several awards and has been exhibited in major design museums around the world. The chair is often used in modern interior design schemes and is considered a classic of 20th century furniture design. Please note that I sell a Tongue chair with the same fabric. They are a perfect pair.

I feel this is a very feminine chair due to it's thin yet curvy posture. It's old and the frame is telling you that in a nice patinated way. The old sheepskin was completely worn out. So this chair got herself a new sheepskin dress. About the refurbishement: The chosen sheepskin is sheepskin that is always used by Swedese for these chairs. In this case the chosen fabric is a little more special because the sheepskin consists of recycled waste pieces that have been sewn together into whole skins, so-called patchwork. The canvas and frames have not been touched an stayed in their original state with the right amount of patina. She turned out gracefully beautiful and has great comfort and is very light. The kurva lounge chair is the precursor for the more well known Swedese lamino chair...
