About the Item
Entitled "Grizzly Chair", this is a monolithic but refined lounge or club chair, designed in 2023 by London-based designed EJR Barnes. This generously proportioned piece is entirely upholstered in silky, solid black hair-on-hide over a sprung seat and birch plywood and aluminum frame.
Recalling the streamlined sensibility of 1930s Art Moderne furnishings, the robust and unique curvature of the piece is a blend of high design and durability. Made up of four extruded cylindrical elements, two of which form the backrest and seat, and two sides that run the full depth of the chair, providing an indulgent, throne-like envelopment. The low-slung seat is elegantly angled for comfort, showcasing the subtle sheen and natural beauty of the hide.
The first edition of this chair as desribed in this listing is available now in New York City. Forward editions are handmade in England and ready to ship in 10-12 weeks.
About the Artist:
Elliot ‘EJR’ Barnes (b. 1991) is an artist and designer based in East London. Known for romantic yet pragmatic works, his auto-didactic practice is elegantly non-conformist, unbound by the emotional barriers of a formal training and somewhat undefined, existing in the gray area between decorative art and industrial design.
