This two-seater sofa was designed by the award-winning architect Jan Bocan and possibly produced by Thonet or Ton. The sofa is in good original condition, and it has original upholstery from the 1970s. The bentwood frame is lovely, with a nice patina. The original jute fabric is in excellent condition with minor signs of age and use. This beautiful lounge sofa would make a striking addition to any interior, such as the living room, family room, screening room, or office. It would also fit perfectly in a hospitality or corporate location like a boutique hotel lobby, cocktail bar, members club, or luxury boutique. Please note that we recommend reupholstery before use, but a locally organized reupholstery is also possible.
Bočan commissioned Michael Thonet's former factories in the Czech Republic to produce the sweeping curves of these sculptural designs using Thonet's classic bentwood technique. The factories operated during the 1970s as a state-owned enterprise named TON. Choosing mid-century design furniture is a sustainable choice as it promotes the utilization of what is already available, making it an eco-friendly practice. Since mid-century design furniture is often of high quality, it can last several lifetimes. Some furniture items have a rich history behind them; you can still see or feel that history through the signs of wear and tear. These signs show the previous owner's life, making the furniture unique and special.
