Kengo Kuma 'Kumahida' Wood Sofa Bench in Walnut for Hida For centuries, famed Hida artisans in Gifu prefecture have played a role in Japan's woodworking culture, crafting iconic bentwood furniture from sustainable local forests. Established in 1920, Hida Sangyo builds upon the Japanese heritage of craftsmanship and sustainability from their headquarters in Gifu, which remains one of Japan's leading furniture production areas. In addition to offering iconic designs from midcentury masters like Sori Yanagi and Enzo Mari, Hida produces contemporary creations from international designers such as Atsuhiko Misawa and atelier oï. Part of Hida's collection commissioned to celebrate their 100th anniversary, the 'Kumahida' collection is designed to be visually sharp yet light and soft to the touch. The love seat bench is executed in choice of solid wood, with Hida expertly crafting a single bentwood to connect the front legs, arms and back rail. Combined with a gentle sculpting of the backrest, the 'Kumahida' offers a weightless appearance. Price per item. Available to order in unlimited quantities in choice of Walnut or White Oak.
