13 Star American Flag & Eagle 1830 Hand Carved Chesterfield Rocking Armchair

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning and exceptionally rare original William IV 1830 American Eagle carved with 13 star flag rocking armchair with Chesterfield tufted leather Where to begin! The only one of its kind in the world, I’ve never seen anything that comes close to this level of detail, every single square inch of Mahogany frame is hand carved from head to toe. The chair starts at the top with the 13 Star American flag surmounted by the large eagle. The arms have lions heads, there’s another 13 star flag surmounted by flowers to the base, the front of the rocker rails are finished with what we thought dolphins looked like in the early 1900’s, the rest of the rails represent their scaled bodies which of course we now know they don’t have. The leather upholstery is sublime, this chair really is a show stopped and commands attention in any setting It has been fully restored, the mahogany frame has been washed back and French polished, the leather all lightly stripped and hand dyed six times to give it this amazing deep whisky brown colour, there are old repairs to the back rest but they are period and didn’t need any updating so they have been left, this chair is a real winner Dimensions: Height 113cm seat height 46cm Width 75.5cm Depth 88cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
