Lee Woodard Rocking Chair with Weathered Upholstery, circa 1970s

About

Modern rocking chairs that were both innovative and retrospective became trend in the 1960s and 1970s. This example by Lee Woodard & Co. is perhaps one of the most coveted results of that movement. Likely inspired by Michael Thonet or Josef Hoffman's early-century designs, this rocking chair features a swirling steel frame and a very comfortable tufted cushion, weathered to the perfect degree of distress. The armrest cushions were replaced with fresh vinyl at some point in its life. A fantastic, eye-catching piece.
