Italian modular Sistema 61 sofa by Giancarlo Piretti for Aonima Castelli, 1970s.
Modular sofa mod. System 61 with squared seat and back entirely padded and covered in brown corduroy and two-piece seat only in green cotton fabric. The internal structure is in black plastic and the four brown seats and backrests are connected to each other thanks to U-shaped chromed steel hooks. The sofa can be arranged as you prefer: the modules can be separated and used individually both as armchairs and as poufs.
Produced by Anonima Castelli in approx. 1970. and designed by Giancarlo Piretti. Labels present.
Vintage condition, the sofa has small stains and marks scattered on the velvet.

Giancarlo Piretti
Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1940. He attended art schools there and subsequently taught Interior Design. During that time, he was also designing furniture for Anonima Castelli. He has won numerous awards and has items in many museums, including MoMA, New York. He still lives and works in Bologna with his son, designer Alessandro Piretti.
