Chinese Qing Dynasty Red Lacquer Traveller's Folding Chair with Woven Seat

About the Item

An antique Chinese Qing Dynasty period red lacquered folding traveller’s chair from the 19th century, with carved birds and foliage, scalloped footrest and woven fabric. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period in the 19th century, this folding chair features a red lacquered body presenting a slanted back with lamp-hanger upper rail, adorned with a central splat, pierced with birds and delicate floral motifs on latticed patterns. The rustic seat is made of woven fabric and is resting on an X-frame that allows the piece to be folded conveniently. This type of traveller's chair could have been used within a courtyard home, its folding nature making for easy portability. The front stretcher comprises of a scalloped footrest. With its unpretentious silhouette, red lacquer and skillfully carved décor, this Chinese Qing Dynasty period folding traveller’s chair from the 19th century will bring a touch of relaxed elegance to any décor.
