Connecticut Maple Rush Seat Side Chair in Old Red Surface, Circa 1770

About the Item

Chippendale painted old red maple side chair with vasiform splat, cupid's bow crest and carved Spanish feet. Made in New England, most likely Connecticut, about 1770. All original with replaced natural rush seat. Exceptional turnings with a very bold double balled front stretcher and featuring very rare over-sized side and back stretchers. The craftsmanship is excellent with block and ball turned front legs and beautifully chamfered details on the rear stiles and back of the splat. This is a rare classic American chair with its original Spanish red painted surface and great stance. Images taken in the natural sunlight in order for you to see the honesty and surface of this lovely piece.
