Set of five S45 ‘Chlacc’ chairs by Pierre Chapo:
“The S45 is one of the most sculptural creations in the Chapo catalogue, a design that bears not a passing resemblance to the iconic tower in the capital where it’s creator was born.” (From Pierre Chapo, Magen Gallery, page 218).
Pierre Chapo’s design have been heavily influenced by works from the Bauhaus period and designers like le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand. By studying his pieces one thing clearly stands out: his focus on details, craftsmanship and the relatively bulky and rigid shapes used in his furniture.
Other works include the S11 Chair, the T22 Coffee Table and the R08 Sideboard: Pierre Chapo can be considered as one of the most recognized designers from the French Modernist period.

Pierre Chapo
Pierre Chapo, who was born in Paris, France, in July 1927, was initially interested in becoming a professional painter. However, after a chance meeting with a shipbuilder who introduced him to wood and woodworking, Chapo changed his focus and decided to study architectural studies at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
After graduating, Chapo and his wife, the sculptor and painter Nicole Lormier, started traveling extensively through Scandinavia and Central America. Among the many places the couple visited was Taliesin West, the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright — a visit that had a lasting influence on Chapo’s future work and designs.
