About the Item

Refined Klismos chair attributed to Kay Fisker, crafted in stained oak and retaining its original leather upholstery. The chair embodies Fisker’s early architectural approach — a disciplined dialogue between classical form and modern functionality. The sweeping backrest and tapered legs reinterpret the ancient Greek Klismos tradition through the lens of early 20th-century Danish design, marked by proportion, material honesty, and quiet elegance. The original patinated leather adds depth and authenticity, reflecting over a century of care and use. Measurements: • Height: 88 cm (34.6 in) • Width: 42 cm (16.5 in) • Depth: 41 cm (16.1 in) • Seat height: 46 cm (18.1 in) Condition: Excellent structural condition. Original leather preserved with beautiful patina and light wear consistent with age. Kay Fisker (1893–1965) was one of the most influential figures in Danish architecture and design. Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Fisker helped shape Nordic functionalism through his masterful sense of proportion and respect for materials. His architecture and furniture design shared the same disciplined logic — functional, humane, and timeless. This c.1922 chair represents an early and highly refined moment in Danish design history, where classical influence and emerging modern ideals coexisted in perfect balance.
