Pair of Late 19th Century French Louis XVI Style Hand Carved Walnut Side Chairs

About the Item

This pair of nineteenth century Louis XVI style walnut chairs features an escutcheon shaped seat back flanked by spiral fluted columns detailed with acanthus leaves. The columns have rosettes at the top and bottom and are appointed with finials. A central hand carved artistic motif including a lyre, palette, and brushes details the top of the seat back. Rosettes additionally detail the die joints of the seat, and beading and a rais-de-coeur pattern lines the apron. The seat rests on tapered legs that repeat the acanthus leaf and spiral fluting found in the columns above. The chairs are upholstered in a striped cream colored fabric detailed with roses and finished with nail head trim. An elegant hand carved pair, c. 1870.
