About the Item
Axel Einar Hjorth (1888-1959) was a leading Swedish designer. He opened an interior design office in Stockholm in 1924, and from 1927 to 1938 worked as chief designer and architect for the Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) which was one of the most important makers of modern furniture in Sweden. He designed the interiors for the Swedish Pavilion at the 1929 International Exhibition at Barcelona, and exhibited at the Century of Progress exhibition in Chicago, 1933-34. In 2009 the book Axel Einar Hjorth : Möbelarkitekt (furniture architect) was publish and authored by Eric Ericson, Christian Bjork and Thomas Ekstrom.
