De Sede "DS-11" Modular Sofa, Natural Leather, 1970, Set of 4

About the Item

De Sede "DS-11" Modular Sofa, Leather, Switzerland, 1970, Set of 4 The De Sede “DS-11” modular sofa exemplifies the great art of craftsmanship and design of the 1970s. The in-house creative team of the Swiss design furniture brand conceived this sectional couch with a precise identity and rich materials. The DS11 features four modular elements: two straight sections and two corner units, offering endless versatility in configuration. Its clean, horizontal patchwork design is accentuated by precise striping that enhances its understated elegance. Upholstered in the original of the age full-grain leather, the sofa showcases De Sede's renowned deep-buttoning technique, or so-called "capitonné," which adds texture and visual depth to the design. The backrest seamlessly integrates with the squared support side, creating a cohesive, cubic profile. This design forgoes visible legs, resting instead on a concealed monolithic base, which grounds the sofa in a monumental presence. The "DS-11" provides exceptional comfort and durability, with a sculptural form that embraces both modernity and tradition. Its smooth seat borders and meticulous craftsmanship highlight the company's commitment to excellence. Renowned brand, issuing some of the most iconic midcentury modern sofas like the DS-600 "Snake" and "Terrazza", De Sede is worldwide recognized as one of the most important leather furniture producers. By Ubald Klug, De Sede
Located in Lonigo, Veneto
Ulbald Klug DS-1025 "Terrazza" sofas for De Sede, leather, Switzerland, 1974, set of two. Ubald Klug designed this rare modular DS-1025 "Terrazza" sofa as a real living landscape. Each element recalls a terrace-like, stepped slope with different widths and depths. A valley or a mountain can appear depending on how the individual modules are assembled. The "Terrazza" was recreated thanks to the De Sede manufacturer and its ability to transform high-quality leather into seating furniture. This multi-layered upholstered relief invites people to sit or lie down, combining durability and comfort with a unique design. After training at the Art and Design College in Zurich, Ulbald Klug (1932) gained further experience in architectural practices in Zurich and Helsinki. Paris has been his sphere of activity since 1966, when he founded his architecture and interior design bureau. Klug proved himself successful at finding solutions to different challenges and developed non-conformist solutions - from furniture design, to concepts for urban installations, to architectural prototypes...
