The De Sede “DS-11” modular sofa exemplifies the great art of craftsmanship and design of the 1970s. The in-house creative team of the Swiss design furniture brand conceived this sectional couch with a precise identity and rich materials. The DS11 features six modular elements: three straight sections and three corner units, offering endless versatility in configuration. Its clean, horizontal patchwork design is accentuated by precise striping that enhances its understated elegance. Upholstered in the original of the age full-grain leather, the sofa showcases De Sede's renowned deep-buttoning technique, or so-called "capitonné," which adds texture and visual depth to the design. The backrest seamlessly integrates with the squared support side, creating a cohesive, cubic profile. This design forgoes visible legs, resting instead on a concealed monolithic base, which grounds the sofa in a monumental presence. The "DS-11" provides exceptional comfort and durability, with a sculptural form that embraces both modernity and tradition. Its smooth seat borders and meticulous craftsmanship highlight the company's commitment to excellence. One of the world’s most respected furniture design houses, de Sede’s quality Swiss craftsmanship has its foundation in a long history of making expertly designed saddles. Founded in 1965 to build on a successful family-run saddler’s workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, de Sede now is a leading manufacturer of leather goods and furniture, including sofas, chairs and beds.
At the core of de Sede’s philosophy is a reverence for the complexity and beauty of handcrafted furniture in an age when mass-produced objects are the norm. Over the years, the atelier has built a name for itself in its modular furniture pieces, which are made using the highest quality leather upholstery. The sleek, elegant pieces incorporate functionality with beauty. Amongst their best-selling designs is the DS-600 introduced in 1972. Also known as the Non Stop sofa, it is a sensually curved, snaking modular sofa whose individual pieces can be zipped together to create multiple variations and arcs.
De Sede has collaborated with some of the world's finest design minds, enhancing the prestige and individuality of their products. Designers like Santiago Calatrava, Antonella Scarpitta, Stephan Hürlemann, Gordon Guillaumier and Philippe Malouin have all created pieces with the atelier. Ubald Klug’s 1974 DS-1025, also known as the Terrazza sofa, is an enduring favorite with its cascading levels of leather. In 2017, de Sede expanded its product line to include high-quality leather handbags, which are as thoughtfully designed and beautifully crafted as its furniture. De Sede AG is now part of the Volare Group AG and continues to handcraft its fine furniture and other goods from its factory in Klingnau.

Ubald Klug designed this rare modular DS-1025 "Terrazza" sofa as a real living landscape. Each element recalls a terrace-like, stepped slope with different widths and depths. A valley or a mountain can appear depending on how the individual modules are assembled. The "Terrazza" was recreated thanks to the De Sede manufacturer and its ability to transform high-quality leather into seating furniture. This multi-layered upholstered relief invites people to sit or lie down, combining durability and comfort with a unique design.
After training at the Art and Design College in Zurich, Ulbald Klug (1932) gained further experience in architectural practices in Zurich and Helsinki. Paris has been his sphere of activity since 1966, when he founded his architecture and interior design bureau.
